The new head bolts have now arrived 🙂 I got them from http://www.krause-rennsporttechnik.de and although they charged 10EUR postage and only took bank transfer it worked out at £4 to do the transfer with First Direct and with the exchange rate it was still cheaper than getting them from Vauxhall!
Continue readingMagnecore custom made spark plug leads.
As im running injection on the Manta with a coil pack i didn’t want to use the standard plug leads and needed some custom ones making. so after a little look around the Magnecore seemed like the best option. They also do a custom made set so i could get the right length and just the 4 leads. The do the ends just as you want them so i have gone with a high temperature 115 degrees boot on the plug end. there the 8.5mm red ones.
Continue readingGetting the timing disc mounted to the front pulley
Its been a while since i last posted a little update as i have been waiting for a few bits to be made/modified and one of those is the front pulley. I have to change the standard 1.9 front pulley which the fan belt runs round as it was not possible to modify this to take the new timing disc for the injection system. So the answer was to use one from a Frontera A as they use injection and have a toother wheel. Originally i thought i might be able to get this to work with the Weber injection,…
Continue readingAlternator adjuster now all sorted.
After lots of googleing and a few calls i came to the conclusion that the options i had fond were too expensive at £50+ for an adjuster. I did find one from Harris Performance (on ebay) it was a bit sort but at £25 a better price so i thought i would buy it and then work out what to do. So when it arrived it fitted nicely but was about 15mm to short when fully opened, so i bought a female rose joint end for £2 from ebay and a bit of threaded bar and now it fits perfect.
Continue readingIts been a while
Well its been a while since i have posted an update, due to far too much work and then a week away! So were back onto getting this thing started up now 🙂 Just bought a new 70a alternator from ebay as although the old one was ok it just didn’t fit with the new bits! So that will be going on this week. Then its sort out the spark plug leads and get that front timing disc sorted and the sensor located and then i think we are very close to getting going. I hope within the next couple…
Continue readingFuel system tested
Got the fuel pump fired up yesterday, just one leak from a hose to fix. One of those braided hose clamps not tightening properly. But if flowed right up and back round to the tank 🙂 Just a few other hoses for the cold start breather system to sort out and then spark plug leads to order, trigger disc to fit and then i should be ready to start filling her up with oil and water!
Continue readingThe Manta is now back on the ground!
For the first time in about 10 years the A Series Manta is now back on the ground 🙂 I finally managed to lower the car down from its blocks this weekend now the gearbox is back in! It’s been a very long time since it sat on its wheels. The engine and box are now back in and secure allowing me to lower the car and be able to move it in the garage. I can new get on and finish the exhaust system, finish putting the final parts of the injection back on and then we should be ready…
Continue readingThe gearbox is now back in the car :-)
As i had today off work i thought i would finish fitting the last few bits to the gearbox and pop it back in the car 🙂 Fitting the bits was nice and easy. Getting the old drain plug out, not so easy and fitting the box back in the car with the engine in was a long slow progress 🙁 i knew it was not an easy job, but you forget just how hard it is with the engine in and the car on the floor 🙂 Still after about 3 hours of messing around trying to get it…
Continue readingOpel Manta 5 speed gearbox rebuild
While i have the gerabox out i decided it would be best to take it apart and check it over and replace all the bits i could like seals, speedo drive, reversing switch etc.. I got most of the parts from eBay Germany from Thomas. he has an amazing Ascona and sells lots of good qualityy replacement parts for Opel Mantas. Check out his website here and his eBay shop. He is very helpful with any questions you have and the parts arrive very quickly. I also found a very handy parts view of the gearbox just in case you…
Continue readingManifolds fitted
Finally i have manged to get the gearbox to block brace adjusted and fitted and the exhaust manifold fitted. The inlets are on, so its time to get all the injection bolted on and find out where all the wires go!
