A little progress update on the old opel!
I now have a nice new fully mappable ECU that any dealer can map, so that should make life easier, and the loom has been adjusted to work with the new ECU, so i have lost a few bits from the old setup as the air temp sensor is not needed. The ECU is all plumbed in under the dash and i have a new trigger disc to go with it.
The loom as all in and i just need to set the tappet clearance for the engine to be ready.
So things im waiting of before starting her up are:
Sort out the spaghetti wiring to find a live feed for the ECU
Mount the coil. Steve at Rhino www.rhinoalloys.com is just powdercoating that and the cam cover parts, so they should be with me soon.
Then its just sort out the heating pipes. I have had a few problems getting clamps on in tight places and came across these (Gates power grip clamps – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O91YqHbp8c ) which should do the job nicely! You can only get them from the states, but wire care have worked me out a good shipping cost. I ordered a couple to try and solve the top hose leaking issue that i have as the custom hose from JS is a little bit big, only about 2mm but i just cant get it tight with clamps so the plan is to shrink a power clamp around the top radiator outlet to increase the size by about 3mm to make it nice and tight so i have ordered a whole load of sizes to go on some of the other pipes like the heating and the top hose. So they should be here this week at some point.
So i think its time to book a day off of work when all the parts are here and see if we can get to a position to be ready to fire her up in the next week or two.
